Stroll along Đồng Khởi Street to discover some of Ho Chi Minh City’s iconic landmarks, including the Notre Dame Cathedral, the Central Post Office, and the Saigon Opera House. For a deeper dive into local culture, make sure to visit the bustling Bến Thành Market and the serene Jade Emperor Pagoda.

Shop small boutiques

In District 1, many old apartments and former office buildings have been transformed into vibrant shopping centers. Iconic structures like 22 Lý Tự Trọng and 42 Nguyễn Huệ are now home to a variety of unique and intriguing stores, offering a mix of modern and nostalgic shopping experiences.

Explore the Chinese Quarter

The Chinese neighborhood of Chợ Lớn is perfect for a walking adventure. Explore the bustling Bình Tây Market, a massive wholesale trading hub, and visit Thiên Hậu Pagoda, a serene and atmospheric temple dedicated to the goddess of the sea.

Hop on a motorcycle

Experience the city like a local by hopping on the back of a motorbike to explore its vibrant streets and immerse yourself in its energetic pulse. Evening motorbike tours are especially enchanting, offering a romantic view of the city as sidewalk vendors come alive and the streets buzz with activity.

Eat street food

In Ho Chi Minh City, locals relish gathering around dented metal tables to enjoy amazing roadside feasts. Be sure to try iconic dishes like bánh mì, southern-style savory pancakes (bánh xèo), and flavorful broken rice (cơm tấm), which are all must-try culinary delights.

Top thing to do in Mui Ne

White Sand Dunes, Mui Ne

One of Mui Ne’s most famous attractions lies about 25 kilometers northeast of the town—the stunning Mui Ne Sand Dunes. Who would have guessed Vietnam is home to such magnificent dunes?

The White Sand Dunes, while not pure white, are noticeably brighter than typical dunes. Their unique charm comes from their gentle slopes that dip into a serene lotus lake, framed by lush greenery, creating a striking and picturesque contrast.

Quad Biking the White Dunes

Visiting the White Sand Dunes is free, and you can explore them on foot. However, walking up a sand dune can be quite the workout! For a more thrilling experience, you can rent a quad bike from the snack bar near the entrance. For about $30 an hour, you can zoom across the dunes, dipping and diving while spraying white sand in your wake—it’s an exhilarating adventure.

The dunes can get windy, which might make photography tricky, but the stunning cloud formations often make it worth the effort to capture some incredible shots.

Red Sand  Dunes, Mui Ne

The Red Sand Dunes are located about 20 minutes from town. As soon as we reached the top, a group of kids approached, eager to offer plastic surf mats, but I decided to stay on my feet that day. The sand here is coarser than the white dunes, and it even squeaked as we made our way to the top. While the Red Dunes might not be as striking as the White Dunes, they offer some beautiful views of the ocean, and I imagine the sunsets here must be spectacular. Best of all, there’s no charge to visit the Red Dunes.

Mui Ne Fishing Village

The third stop was at Mui Ne fishing village. We pulled up along the busy main road, and Hau even stopped traffic for us to cross! A steep concrete slope, with steps leading down to the sea, takes you to a small beach covered in piles of empty scallop shells. The night’s catch is brought in early each morning and sorted right there on the beach.

The view of the brightly colored boats stretches out across the water, with locals sitting in them, mending their nets and gear. You’ll also spot many small round basket boats, common throughout Vietnam, along with some of the original bamboo-woven boats. Today, most of these boats are made from colored fiberglass. Fishing remains a vital industry in Mui Ne, and the fresh seafood here is truly impressive.
