Thing to do in Nha Trang
Go beach-hunting
Nha Trang Beach comes alive during the day, drawing crowds of sunbathers to its golden sands. Just a short drive south, Long Beach offers a more laid-back setting with cozy seafood restaurants and ideal conditions for surfing. For those eager to venture further, renting a motorbike is a great way to reach the serene shores of Dốc Lết or Đại Lãnh beaches, where tranquil beauty and pristine waters await.
Try a mud bath
Nha Trang offers a distinctive wellness experience with its mud baths and hot springs. Tucked away in the hills north of the city, several spa-like facilities invite visitors to soak in warm, therapeutic mud pools, said to rejuvenate the skin. Afterward, unwind in soothing hot mineral waters for a truly relaxing retreat amid nature.
Get on the water
Embark on daylong island tours to explore the stunning Nha Trang Bay and its nearby gems. Visit Monkey Island, Hòn Mun Island, and Yến Island, each offering pristine, unspoiled beaches. These excursions provide a perfect escape into the beauty and tranquility of Vietnam’s coastal treasures.
Visit pagodas and palaces
Long Sơn Pagoda, with its impressive 78-foot-tall Buddha statue, is a must-visit landmark in Nha Trang, along with the ancient Po Nagar Cham Towers, which showcase the region’s rich cultural heritage. For those seeking quieter historical sites, the Bảo Đại Villa, located south of the city, offers a serene glimpse into the area’s past.
Top thing to do in Mui Ne
White Sand Dunes, Mui Ne
Mui Ne’s most iconic attraction lies about 25 kilometers northeast of the town—the mesmerizing Mui Ne sand dunes. Who would have thought that Vietnam is home to such stunning sandscapes?
Among them, the white sand dunes stand out, though not entirely snow-white, they are distinctly brighter than typical dunes. What makes them particularly captivating is their dramatic descent into a lotus lake encircled by lush greenery, creating a striking visual contrast.
Quad Biking the White Dunes
Visiting the white sand dunes comes at no cost, and you’re free to explore them on foot—though climbing the dunes can be quite a challenge. At the entrance, there’s a small snack bar where you can rent quad bikes for about $30 an hour. Riding across the dunes, kicking up clouds of white sand, is an exhilarating experience. The windy conditions might make you hesitant to bring out your camera, but the stunning cloud formations make it well worth the effort.
Red Sand Dunes, Mui Ne
Located just a 20-minute drive from town, the red sand dunes offer a unique charm of their own. Upon reaching the summit, local children eagerly approached with plastic surf mats for sliding down the slopes, though simply taking in the scenery on foot can be just as enjoyable. The sand here is coarser than that of the white dunes and emits a soft squeak underfoot as you climb. While the red dunes may not be as striking as their white counterparts, they do provide breathtaking ocean views, and the sunsets are rumored to be spectacular. Best of all, there’s no fee to explore the Red Dunes.
Mui Ne Fishing Village
The third destination on the journey was Mui Ne fishing village, a vibrant spot buzzing with activity. We stopped along the busy main road, where Hau kindly halted traffic so we could safely cross. From there, a steep concrete slope with embedded steps led down to the shore, revealing a small beach covered in heaps of empty scallop shells. Each morning, the night’s catch is brought ashore and sorted directly on the beach.
The view here is captivating, with brightly painted boats stretching across the water. Locals could be seen aboard their vessels, diligently repairing nets and other fishing equipment. Among the boats were the iconic round basket boats, a staple of Vietnam’s coastal culture. While traditional versions were crafted from bamboo, most modern ones are now made of colorful fiberglass. As fishing is a primary industry in Mui Ne, the fresh seafood on offer is simply outstanding.
