Thing to do in Hoi An

Get lost in the Old Town

Hoi An flourished as a trading hub from the 15th to 19th centuries, attracting merchants from China, Japan, and Europe, resulting in a captivating blend of architectural styles. Don’t forget your camera as you explore landmarks like the iconic Japanese Bridge, the historic Tan Ky ancestral house, and the ornate Phuc Kien Assembly Hall.

Treat your taste buds

Hoi An offers a delightful culinary experience, with local farms and fishing boats supplying fresh vegetables, seafood, herbs, and fruits to its bustling markets. Among the must-try dishes are the flavorful Cao Lau noodles, crispy Hoanh Thanh (wontons), and delicate white rose dumplings, all of which capture the essence of this vibrant town

Cycle in the countryside

Start your day in Hoi An by hopping on a bike at sunrise, when the town is bathed in soft golden light. As you pedal through Cam Thanh and Tra Que, you’ll be surrounded by lush green landscapes, with water buffalo lazily flicking their tails. Along the way, you’ll encounter thriving vegetable farms and serene ponds framed by swaying fronds, creating a picturesque and tranquil scene.

Hit the beach

An Bang Beach, located just a short 10-minute drive from Hoi An’s Ancient Town, offers a perfect seaside escape. With its inviting sandy stretches, refreshing waves, and charming seafood restaurants, it’s an ideal spot for relaxation. Pack your beach essentials—books, blankets, and swimwear—for a laid-back day by the water. For a more adventurous experience, hop on a boat and head to the pristine Cham Islands, where untouched beaches and vibrant marine life await.

Marvel at My Son

My Son Sanctuary, a UNESCO World Heritage Site situated 40 kilometres from Hoi An, is a captivating historical treasure. Nestled within a lush valley beside a tranquil stream, this ancient complex was constructed by the Cham people. The remaining temples, showcasing intricate architecture and spiritual significance, date back to between the 7th and 13th centuries, offering a glimpse into a once-thriving civilisation.

Top thing to do in Mui Ne

White Sand Dunes, Mui Ne

Mui Ne’s most famous attraction lies roughly 25 kilometres northeast of the town—the remarkable sand dunes that might surprise those unfamiliar with Vietnam’s diverse landscapes. The White Sand Dunes, while not pure white, stand out with their lighter hue compared to typical dunes. What makes them truly special is the way they slope gracefully towards a serene lotus lake, its lush greenery creating a stunning contrast to the sandy expanse.

Quad Biking the White Dunes

Visiting the White Sand Dunes is completely free, and exploring them on foot is an option—though climbing the soft, shifting sand can be quite the workout. At the entrance, you’ll find a small snack bar that offers quad bike rentals. For approximately $30 an hour, you can experience the thrill of riding up and down the dunes, kicking up sprays of white sand with every turn. The winds on the dunes can be strong, but they often create breathtaking cloud formations, making it worth braving the elements for some stunning photographs.

Red Sand  Dunes, Mui Ne

The Red Sand Dunes, just a 20-minute drive from Mui Ne town, offer a unique desert-like landscape. Upon arrival, you might be greeted by enthusiastic children offering plastic mats for sand sledding. However, simply exploring the dunes on foot can be just as enjoyable. The sand here is coarser than that of the White Dunes, creating a soft squeak underfoot as you climb. While the Red Dunes may lack the dramatic scale of their white counterparts, they boast stunning views of the ocean. This spot is free to visit, and the sunsets are said to be absolutely mesmerizing, making it a worthwhile stop

Mui Ne Fishing Village

Mui Ne Fishing Village is a fascinating glimpse into the coastal life of Vietnam. Located along a bustling main road, the village is easily accessed via a steep concrete path with steps leading down to the shore. The beach itself is a vibrant scene, dotted with piles of empty scallop shells, remnants of the morning’s catch, which is sorted directly on the sand.

The waters are adorned with colorful fishing boats, and it’s common to spot locals skillfully mending their nets or preparing for their next outing. Among the vessels are the iconic round basket boats, a hallmark of Vietnamese fishing traditions. While many are now crafted from modern fiberglass, some of the original bamboo designs still remain. Fishing is a cornerstone of Mui Ne’s economy, and the fresh seafood available here is a testament to its thriving industry.
